Accounting

Those entering the accounting department at Howard Payne University will be prepared to enter the accounting profession, work in related fields or attend graduate school. Students can pursue three options in accounting – (1) the traditional major, (2) a special major designed to prepare students to become Certified Public Accountants (CPA), or (3) an accounting major with an emphasis in finance.

The Bachelor of Business Administration – Certified Public Accountant degree program is a five-year, 150-hour program which satisfies the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy’s requirements. To be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, students must have completed 150 hours of college study with at least 36 hours in accounting at the time of application. Students also must fulfill the basic BBA requirements.

The BBA Accounting/MBA Integrated program requires the accounting major to complete 150 credit hours which will satisfy the requirements for both BBA and MBA degrees. Graduates from this program will be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.

Business Administration

The business administration department prepares students for marketing and management careers, to teach in business fields, to function effectively in a global business environment and/or to experience success in future graduate studies.

Students majoring in business administration fields will develop skills in critical thinking, decision making, oral and written communications, quantitative analysis and information technology.
